Sport Jet Proof of Concept #2
Here is a mockup #2 done with 1/4" foam board to get a rough idea of how we scaled it down to size. After building the first one, we saw right away that we had oversized our sport jet. Back to the CAD system and after more 1/4" foam board was cut, this is what we ended up with.
This is a straight shot looking from nose to tail. Notice the formers are now in place and the fuselage has a nice curve on each side.
Here is the turbine mount area. The rear former has been cut, but I have not cut the front former yet. It will eventually be cut out just like the rear. Plenty of room though to mount any 18lb plus turbine.
Here is a rear shot of the turbine mount area. The mounts are flexing because the 1/4" foam board does not offer much support. But the kit will have hardwood mounting rails.
This is kind of a rear and side view. As you can see we scaled down the height of the fuselage a bit. And also built mockup #2 with a nice curved fuselage top. If you look closely, you will see where the former tab's mate to the fuselage sides too.
Same shot as up above, although I hid the turbine tubes and wires.
Nose shot looking down. I think the overall look is quite attractive. Very faintly you can see where the canopy will be cut out depicted with the blue line. The other line which runs down the entire fuselage is the center thrust line. That will be used to setup the wing and tail section.
So far I am very please with #2 and will start finalizing the internal construction so a real prototype can be constructed with lite ply and balsa. Stay tune for more developments to be posted soon. |
