CNC Router

Phoenix Build Pictorial

DAY 2

Day 3

Managed to get some scrap window channel from a local glass company. It took me going to 3 companies before I found one that 1) Had some scrap material and 2) Were willing to give it to me. The guy was even nice enough to cut it for me. Mean while I also spent another $26 towards my CNC Router project at Lowes today. Of the $26, $14 was for a set of Fostners bits. Anyway, the picture below shows the window channel. The longer one will be for the X axis and the shorter one is for the Z axis.

During the same day, I was able to score some scrap Delrin from a plastics company. I must have called 8 to 10 companies before I got a referral from one company to the company that actually was nice enough to set some scrap aside for me. The picture below shows the Delrin and the second shows the PVC.

Again, scrap PVC I managed to get from a plastic company. I will need some more to complete the CNC Router, but I will wait a few more days or even a week before I contact them again. Might even offer to take the guy to lunch.

Ok, the PVC needs to be cut down so centering blocks can be constructed. Here you see me getting ready to cut the PVC with my bandsaw.

The first of four centering blocks is now cut. Nothing too exciting, but more forward progress.

All four centering blocks are cut and ready to be drilled. I did use my belt sander to sand the edges which worked quite well.

The center was found by drawing 2 diagonal lines and the centering block was mounted in the vice and aligned to the drill.

First of four centering blocks drilled. Man the shavings go everywhere. I really was not prepared for all the shavings flying around, but it is too late to stop. I will just plan on cleaning up after all four are done.

All four centering blocks are now drilled. I love the little disc that are a by product of using a Fostner bit to drill out the centering holes.

I decided to take one more picture after I drilled and tapped one side of the centering blocks. All four sides and all four blocks will have to be drilled and tapped. This is quite time consuming but again more forward progress!

I have some more pictures from day 2 and will post them soon.

Back to Day 1 or ahead to Day 3
